This film proved that all you need to make a really scary film is a camcorder and a few willing participants, even if they are total pricks. It provided the inspiration for an entire genre of films that are still popular today, and serves as a staunch reminder to Hollywood that sometimes not knowing is a lot more terrifying than all these CGI ghouls and ghosts that they insist on shoving down our throats.
