Not sure about this one, heard good things but didnt seem to do it for me, I know its only part 1 and heard you have to watch them both before making your mind up. That would be all fine and well if I wanted to watch a french gangsta version of lord of the rings but oddly I dont. Though now I think about it french hobbit gangsta's has a certain je ne sais quoi" about it. I'll get my coat."
Another stab at a gangster classic by the French, this film didn’t really grip me at first as it doesn’t really give you the chance to build a background on the characters as one minute you’ll be asking “who’s he?” “oh don’t worry he’s dead now” “Hang on when did he go to America?” and so on, that’s only if you can see past Vincent Cassel massively spaced frog eyes (thank god for widescreen) all in all very rushed and it has one of the most pointless jail breaks of all time.
I was disappointed in this. It seemed far too rushed, and to be honest I couldn't care less about what happened to the people in it. It's all too far fetched, which is funny, because it's based on the true story of French gangster Jacques Mesrine. Truth often is stranger than fiction, they say, though.
Really good french gangster flick..loads of violence and murders..cant wait to see part 2.
Vincent Cassell is easily one of my top 10 favourite actors. He is an absolute fucking meathead in this film. After watching this I could not believe it was true, it is apparently almost a complete account of his criminal life. If you like your gangster flicks and french films then get this in your collection right away, it will not disappoint. I read into him as after watching part 1 and part 2. Un-fucking believable criminal achivements that had many governments chasing after him in the 60-70s.
